July News
It was a quiet month for us performance-wise, but that didn't stop us from being busy behind the scenes! We were preparing for our debut performance at Opera Holland Park later in the summer, and that meant meetings, trips to check in on our staging, fabric shopping for costumes and more! Our stage designer Peiyao Wang and intern Ellie Haywood are here visiting the workshop that helped make our staging, with carpenter Sam!

Outside of our success at Holland Park, our Young Artists continued to thrive:
Soprano Ceferina Penny appeared as Musetta with Waterperry Opera Festival in La bohème throughout August
Tenor Robert Forrest sang Rodolfo with Waterperry Opera Festival in La bohème throughout August
Erin Rossington gave a recital as part of Waterperry's ballroom series
Simon Mascarenhas Carter gave a recital as part of Waterperry's ballroom series

Elsewhere, young artists were busy with summer contracts:
Soprano Kristina Ammattil performed in the chorus for La Traviata at Garsington Opera, which finished its run on the 24th of July. She was also covering the role of Melanto in Il Ritorno d'Ulisse.
Soprano Erin Rossington was busy this month covering the role of Mimì for the Grange Festival's production of La bohème.
Simon Mascarenhas Carter was covering the role of Scaramuccio for Glyndebourne's staging of Ariadne auf Naxos, taking part in the understudy performance on the 29th of July. He also sang the role of Echo in L'Orfeo and sang in the chorus.
Soprano Ceferina Penny performed the role of the Milliner in Der Rosenkavalier at Garsington throughout July - you can see her and her fabulous costume pictured below.
We also had some lovely announcements from Young Artists:
Hector Bloggs is going to be joining the Opera Studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper from the 26/27 season. This is after a busy summer as a Jerwood Young Artist at Glyndebourne. We wish him all the best in Germany!
Soprano Olivia Tringham also announced that she would be heading to the Da Ponte Opera Festival in September to sing the role of Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro. We hope she has a splendid time.
It's great to see our Young Artists booked and busy! We can't wait to see some of them perform at Opera Holland Park next month.
