History

Beginnings

Opera Prelude was established in 2010 with the aim of supporting early-career opera singers and repetiteurs through our Young Artist Programme (YAP). We provide 40 of the UK’s finest young artists with professional performance opportunities, one-to-one masterclasses with industry professionals, the opportunity to lecture on topics of musical and academic interest, participation in community outreach projects and career networking opportunities. There is no fee to audition for our YAP, and we are committed to providing fair pay and financial support in the form of bursaries and mini-grants for our artists.

Passion

Opera Prelude has a proven track record of providing high-quality, critically acclaimed opera events, including our year-round lecture series, opera performances, recitals, work with leading academics and musicologists, and our increasingly wide-ranging outreach programme. We are passionate about opening opera up, bringing audience and performers together in friendly, informal settings, whilst maintaining the highest possible standards of performance.

Guidance

It has never been harder to break into the operatic profession, and the work we do with our young artists is vital in giving them the support they need in order to take the first important steps along the road to a successful career in opera. By supporting these exceptional musicians, we are supporting the future of the UK opera scene itself.
